UK moves India from ‘red’ to ‘amber’ list

Context
The United Kingdom moved India from red to amber list under its traffic light system, a categorization that was created for international travel amid the pandemic.
About the traffic light system
- The UK’s traffic light system lists countries into three categories –
- The segregation is based on “the risk posed by the individual countries and territories”.
- Under the traffic light system, each country is “continuously monitored”, and is reviewed every three weeks.
- In case of sudden change, a country or territory may move between the lists without giving any warning.
- The classification makes it easier for people to understand the rules which they must follow to enter the country.
Three categories of the traffic light system
Red list
- The UK has advised its citizens not to travel to the countries on the red list.
- British and Irish nationals, or those with residence rights in the UK, can enter the UK from places on the red list.
- Travelers are required to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days and take three Covid-19 tests.
Amber list
- People from the amber list require three Covid-19 tests.
- Home quarantine for 10 days is also mandatory.
- For UK nationals who are fully vaccinated, quarantine is not required.
- People who have been fully vaccinated in the United States or many European countries will not require to quarantine when they arrive in the UK or take the Day 8 test.
Green list
- A Covid-19 test must be taken before entering the UK.
- A second test must be taken on or before Day 2 on arrival.
- Quarantine is required if the test result is positive.
