Context
Every year National Police commemoration Day is observed on October 21. The day is observed to pay homage to the CRPF personnel who lost their lives during an ambush by the Chinese troops in 1959 in the hot spring area of the Ladakh region.
Background
- On October 21, 1959, ten brave Policemen were killed by the Chinese Army at Hot Springs in Ladakh in an unequal confrontation inside Indian Territory.

- This day is celebrated on October 21 in honor of the police officers who made the biggest sacrifice on the job.
- Chinese soldiers handed over the bodies of martyred police officers in India on November 28, 1959.
- In North-Eastern Ladakh in Hot Springs, they were cremated with full police honours.
- The Police Commemoration Day Parade has been held at the National Level at the National Police Memorial site in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, since 2012.
Museum inaugurated
- The first Indian national police museum was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on October 15, 2018.
