The Department of Food and Public Distribution launched the “Nafed Fortified Rice Bran Oil”.
About the Fortified Rice Bran Oil
- Rice Bran oil helps in lowering the cholesterol level.
- It has low trans-fat content and high mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fat contents.
- It also acts as a booster and reduces the risk of cancer due to the high amount of Vitamin E it contains.
- This oil is recommended by The American Heart Association and the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the best substitutes for other edible oils.
- Rice Bran oil from NAFED will be fortified and it will be ensured that it will contain additional nutrients and vitamins.
Fortified foods
- These are those that have nutrients added to them that don’t naturally occur in the food.
- These foods are meant to improve nutrition and add health benefits.
- Vitamins A, Vit-D, Calcium and Iron etc. are added.

- It will significantly reduce the country's consumption dependence on imported edible oil in future.
- It will give an impetus to the Aatmnirbhar Bharat initiative.
- This Rice bran oil will be marketed by Nafed (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd).
- A MoU has been signed between Nafed and FCI for the production and marketing of fortified rice kernel.
National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India
- NAFED is registered under the Multi State Co-operative Societies Act.
- It was established in 1958.
- The organization was setup with the objective to promote Co-operative marketing of agricultural produce to benefit the farmers.
