About the International Day of Biological Diversity
- The International Day for Biological Diversity is a United Nations-sanctioned international day for the promotion of biodiversity issues.
- It is held on May 22 annually which falls within the scope of the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda's Sustainable Development Goals.
- The theme for 2021 is “We’re part of the solution”.
- This year emphasis was put on the nature based solution for biodiversity conservation.
What are nature and culture-based solutions for biodiversity conservation?
- Nature-based solutions(NBS refers to the sustainable management and use of nature for tackling socio-environmental challenges.
- Biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. Nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security, and sustainable livelihoods.
